Captain Frank Jay Obermeyer Jr. was born and raised in Cape May County New Jersey. He grew up with a love of the ocean and a passion for fishing that dates as far back as his childhood in the Boy Scouts. After high school Jay knew this desire would lead him to pursue a career at sea. He spent the next seven years on various commercial fishing boats where this love grew into a dream. Jay realized his goal was to become a captain. His dream, to own his own fishing vessel and business. He then spent about 8 years working as a first mate learning the ins and outs of large party boats. This is where he found his niche. Soon after Captain Jay achieved a USCG Masters License, earned his title, and purchased his first charter boat, the Jessie O'. In the spring of 2006, Captain Jay upgraded to the 65' party boat Jessie O' II. Some dreams really do come true! Captain Lee Scanny was born and raised right here in Margate, NJ in 1955. He started fishing from the docks in Margate at an early age. By the time he was 17 he put together his very first boat and has had one ever since. His passion for fishing and being on the water continues to this day. In 1985 Captain Lee received a USCG license and has worked on a variety of vessels both inshore and offshore. Making his passengers happy and putting a smile on a child´s face makes it all worth while for him. Captain Lee looks forward to another fun year as part of the "Jessie O" Fishing Fleet. Captain Chalie McLaughlin has been living, working and fishing this area all his life, 50 or so years, LOL. He ran his own charter boat (SALTY DOG) that sailed out of Margate for many years. He fished inshore, as well as offshore for big game in the canyons. He's also been fishing the back bays on the PONTOONS as long as they have been around. With his constant smile and his love of entertaining his customers, Chalie has been one of the areas favorites and most colorful captains. You never know where you'll find Capt. Chalie throughout the year as he delivers boats all over the Coast, even the Caribbean & Mexico. His resume would take up another web page! I can't think of any mariners that don't know Chalie McLaughlin, we are certainly glad he's on our team! Jon Brooks, our #1 First Mate on the Big Boat, is an extremely well seasoned (too much to list) and well known local fisherman. Jon brings professional knowledge and top notch personality to our operation. Fishing is his life, seriously! We are very fortunate to have him with us! Michael Scanny, Captain Lee´s son, will be a deck hand on the Jessie O´ Fleet this year. Mike shares his fathers passion for fishing and being on the water proving the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
